FAQ

WHAT IS BARRE?

Barre is a fun, challenging but all-levels workout inspired by Ballet movements, Pilates, Yoga, cardio, and strength training. Each Barre class starts in the center of the room with a core-focused warm up that includes a plank series. We then move to upper body with light weights, followed by leg and glute work either at the barre or on the mat. We finish with a main core series and a juicy stretch with the lights down. A very short stretch also follows each muscle group section. We use a variety of small props - balls, resistance loops and bands, weights, yoga blocks, etc. - plus bodyweight exercises and isometric movements designed to exhaust your muscles to the point of fatigue. Your muscles may shake like jell-o but don't worry, it's normal!

We do all of this to the beat of the music - which is not only a ton of fun, but enhances your mind-body connection!

DO I NEED TO HAVE DANCE EXPERIENCE TO TAKE BARRE?

NO! Some things in Barre are inspired by dance/ballet moves, but it is NOT a dance class and you need zero coordination (although regular practice will definitely improve coordination!) â€‹

WHAT OTHER CLASSES ARE THERE?

We also offer Barre Fusion, Mat Pilates, Pilates Suspension Method, Slow Flow Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, and Bar-Reformer (coming Sept. 2024). New class formats may be added, and we also do Pop-Up and Theme classes frequently. Please check the schedule for the most up to date offerings!

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

67555 East Palm Canyon Drive, Suite F111 in Cathedral City, across from the Target and Trader Joe's. We are located right beside Diamond Cuts. Ample parking is available in the parking lot.

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

If it's your first class, please arrive 15 minutes early so your instructor can get you set up and prepared! Otherwise, please arrive at least 5 minutes early so class can start promptly. Please note the studio door is locked while class is in session, and there may be a minimum 15 minute gap between classes. If you arrive earlier than 15 minutes, please wait outside the door and your instructor will open it once class has finished. If it's the first class of the day, the studio door will open 15 minutes before class start time.

WHAT IF I AM LATE?

We do not have a receptionist, so the studio door is locked while class is in session. If you're running late, we will leave the door open and then will lock it 10 minutes past the class start time, after which we will not accept late arrivals.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Whatever activewear you are comfortable working out and sweating in. We recommend leggings and a fitted top. For Barre and Pilates classes, grip socks are required. For Yoga classes, grip socks or bare feet may be worn.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Water, an optional towel, and grip socks for Barre/Pilates. We sell a variety of grip socks at the studio if you don't have any. We provide water for refillable water bottles (donations accepted) and sell a variety of cold drinks. We supply all equipment and props for class, but you can bring your own Yoga mat if you like.

I’M PREGNANT. CAN I STILL TAKE CLASS?

Yes, with clearance from your doctor. Barre is an excellent low impact pre (and post!) natal workout. Please send us a note or let your instructor know ahead of time so that we can give you modifications.

CAN I TAKE CLASS IF I HAVE INJURIES?

Maybe. Barre was originally designed by a ballet dancer to help her recover from an injury, and it can be very effective in doing so. However, we are not doctors and all bodies are different. We can give general recommendations but will not diagnose or give injury-specific advice. Please speak with your doctor/physical therapist for the specific recommendations or modifications you may require, and then speak with us ahead of time.
